How can I grow houseplants in sunny windows over radiators?

If you must put plants in such a place, cover the radiators with about 2 inches of insulating board or insulating fiber. Then, on top of this insulating material, place a board or plant tray. The plants will grow well on top of this because they will be protected from excessive heat.
