Does it help to stand houseplants out in the rain occasionally?

This is an easy way to get the foliage clean. And plants seem to profit from the soft rainwater—especially if you have had to use hard water most of the time. But driving rain may wreck a plant, and if the outdoor temperature is much lower than that of the house it’s sure to set it back.
